A Week in Willow

This week has been another busy week in Willow.

Here is a little peek into what we have been up to:

In English, we have been studying the book, ‘The Arrival’ by Shaun Tan. It is a picture book with no words – a graphic novel. We thought carefully about the messages the author portrays through the images and how each image was significant to accurately tell the story. We then had a go at writing a section of the story, before then writing a backstory for one of the characters, describing why they were fleeing their home. We sketched pictures of the people aboard the boat and used the to create story portholes, which you can see on our display in the school office.

In maths, we have been working hard on measurement. We have been converting metric and imperial units. We measured different items, before converting them into different units.

In science, we have started our ‘electricity’ topic. We began this by looking at static electricity, using balloons. We conducted four different experiments, to show how protons and electrons were distributed, and how these can be use to lift, separate and change objects.

In PE, we have started an ‘electricity’ dance, which we will share at the end of term. We have also started to learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee. This has been a lot of fun! This week we worked on how to accurately throw the frisbee in a small space.

Next week is Science Week. The theme is ‘Growth’ – we can’t wait to share our learning with you!
