Who knows what the polar bear sees.

Who knows what the polar bear sees

With its beady eyes,

Swimming across what used to be its home.

Who knows what the polar bear sees

Its paws trembling in horror, it stares down at its prey.

Who knows what the polar bear sees

As litter arrives at its door, she stared at it, knowing it was objects that polluted its world.

Who knows what the polar bear sees

A future as black as soot, unless actions change the world death is afoot.

The wolf howled to the moon

The wolf howled to the moon.

Who knows what the wolf finds for its prey?

Chasing down the rabbit, the animal dropped to the floor.

Having a lovely meal, the wolf gobbled up his prey like an excavator.

The wolf howled to the moon as the park looked bad.

Over time the park grew bigger and became an ecosystem.

Ecosystem became an animal home like a shelter with a tarp.

Who knew a wolf could be so busy.

Petworth Boys’ School Memorial and National Poetry Day

Last week, year 6 spent a lot of the week learning out about a significant local historical event: the bombing of Petworth Boys’ School in 1942. The children enjoyed being historical detectives, looking at a variety of source material and analysing it. This was particularly engaging as they discovered how an event in the past can continue to have repercussions up to present day. For example, discussing the controversy over the housing development on the site of the old school. Children learnt about different theories as to why this tragic bombing took place and used evidence to support their own judgements.

In addition to their historical work, children took part in activities linked to National Poetry Day. This year’s theme was ‘vision’ and children used the song lyrics of Louis Armstrong’s song ‘What a Wonderful World’ to inspire their own creative writing.

In maths, children have continued to work on developing their understanding of addition, subtraction and multiplication with a focus on formal written methods of calculation.

The mountain

Snow was rushing down me like an asteroid hitting Earth. I was towering over splinter size houses, and minuscule people. Standing safely on my valley, you realize I’m conquerable, but you’ll be a fool to try……

It has been a while since someone tried to conquer me, and I will not let anyone cross my peak.

It has been untouched for century’s, and will remain untouched…… Through the snow storm, you could hear the climber’s feat making crunching sounds while their feet imprint in the snow.

Reaching the atmosphere, I stand strong tall and brave.

The climbers could see a faint light from the sun, making them think, “one day we will make it…

My mountain poem

Around the stone, grey hills ice cold snow rapidly slides down the menace mountain.

A small path leads up to a heavenly looking place.

Eventually, someone would get hold of my eye-catching peak.

Ice like glass spikes down like a trap as sharp as a knife blade.

Haunting, eerie I stand still for centuries doing nothing, but waiting for climbers!

At the peak of me there is a mystical place were no happiness can be or will never be!

There are so many dreams, people that want to reach the top but never did.

Manny people tried conquering me but never reached my treacherous summit.

The life-threatening mountain, looks over the snow slithering down the colossal land.

Screams heard that make you get a feeling that you are being watched and feeling ominous.

People, vanishing when they try conquering me, and not reaching me untouched peak.

I will summon my army that will kill you with frost bite, or worse!

Nervously, menacing humans approach me with fear, and violent movements.

THE DREADFUL MOUNTAIN

When you try to conquer me, you will fail. When you try to take anything from me you will fall.

You can’t climb me you can’t face me wrath you will get destroyed by the avalanche of eternity.

I am your worst nightmare combined. My ancient icicles will cut you into oblivion.

The mountain

As I walked briskly up the mountain, fierce and strong I had thought about my dreams come true for weeks.

Whilst I climbed the undefeatable colossal mountain more, I was shocked more than ever before.

As I walked it was like the mountain cage dropped and letting his army tumble on me.

I panicked so I ran with the wind howling at making me stumble.

It made me bleed but it won’t make me stop.

The mountain!

Who dares to tread on my rugged cliffs?

Since time began, no one has conquered me but maybe today I’ll let you come and play.

With my ancient ridges and my impassable tremors for I’m the monstrous mountain!

One little slip and it will jeopardize everything you’ve gained, so climb carefully!

My gloomy peaks like dragon teeth with a rumbling tummy!

Stretching up to my army, my summit remains abandoned and jagged.

As you hike on my shoulders, I bear your pain slipping and sliding all over my slopes.

Slowly, you climb my rocky face with fear in your eyes, there’s no stopping you now, you’ve nearly reached my summit!

Amazingly, you’ve reached my peak now you can see me as majestic from the top, good luck my miniscule being on your descent!

The mountain

I am the frightful mountain I see people from high and low.

They think they can conquer ME THE MOUNTAIN!!!

As they climbed to the top of my peak, I summoned armies to stop them.

Maybe I will let you have your day. It had been such a long time since I have let such miniscule beings to ascend my peak…

…today may be the day I will!

The mountain

The snow falls out of the sky like a water fall.

The storm goes bye as the sky turns grey.

Ice lays on the snowy floor like a sheet of glass.

Behind the thick walls of snow lies the dreadful menace.

Have you seen anything so magnificent?

I will choose how high you climb and how far you jump.
